How I Transformed a White Coat from BJ’s

Nothing gets me down in the winter months, like having to wear the same black coat every day. So, I got a plain white jacket from BJ’s for about $69. Then I used the stencils from my mural at the Fitchburg Abolitionist Park to spray paint it. Once I was happy with the colors, I sprayed the whole thing with two coats of clear varnish to protect the paint and keep the jacket waterproof. Finally, I let it sit out in my breezeway for about three days to let it dry and air it out (the spray paint stinks!).

Last night came the big test, putting the coat in the washing machine. I was so afraid that the paint would run and stain my other clothes. But the color held up perfectly! There was no running or cracking of the paint, and washing it helped to remove the chemical smell. Now, I can enjoy the rest of the winter being cozy and colorful!

Check out my shop to order totes that I painted using the same stencils!
